 Spinoff Brands

Spinoffs is an ongoing personal side project to stay creative outside of work. While watching shows or movies, I've wondered how the fictional brands or characters could be expanded into their own projects. Sometimes this could be a more strategic play or I could simply just have a fun design in my head that I want to get out and envision. I’ve started putting these thoughts into more formal "mini-rebrand" format: creating a new logo mark, animation, and a couple mockups. Something to get the vision across quickly and move on to the next idea while still bringing the brand to life in a nostalgic and humorous way.

Dunder Mifflin + Scott

The Office

This project started off wanting to just update the typography in the logo, but then I wanted to pay greater respect to the company's comedically outspoken brand manager, Michael Scott. In the show there is a story where Scott starts his own paper company which is quickly bought out by Dunder Mifflin. As part of the "merger" I thought Michael Scott could have negotiated to combine the names of the two companies into "Dunder Mifflin & Scott". The updated logotype includes some subtle curves to add some humor and interest to the corporate paper supplier's name and treats the "+" as a crop mark in the brand mockups that puts the emphasis on name "Scott" (as he would have wanted).

Krusty Krab Pizza

Spongebob Squarepants

Krusty Krab is famous for their dine-in burgers and after many attempts at pizza delivery, it proved to be too much for the undersea restaurant in Bikini Bottom. However the owner, Mr. Krabs, has high hopes that bringing the Krusty Krab name to dry land will prove be a better market for pizza. Along with the new specialty comes a full refresh of the Krusty Krab brand. The new mark illustrates the owner’s iconic claw and its natural resemblance to an almost full pizza pie.

Duff Beer

The Simpsons

Consumed throughout the Simpsons, Duff Beer had tons of exposure throughout the city of Springfield. Although the marker-drawn name reflects the simple animation style of the series, I wanted to imagine the brand in a real-life setting. The main goal of this project was to present the brand name in a modern style that still pays tribute to the established story.
